My First car was a 1942 Ford Coupe. Black. Why that car? It was cheap. I was about 18 years old when I bought it from a guy who ran a body shop. I borrowed money from Marsh Foodliners grocery store, where I had a job bagging groceries.

My friend Ronny and I took it to a place to get the back end jacked up. I remember the vacuum powered windshield wiper and the middle silver side stripe was empty so we painted it red.

The Wreck

I was coming down Main Street. Wasn’t speeding. The radio was a push button radio. The button went flying off, so I bent down to get the button and ended up hitting a car. Nobody was hurt. I didn’t bother getting it fixed. I left the car in driveway and joined the Navy.
